Val d'Aran is a great place for exploring the snowshoes, the oldest way to navigate through the snow. They are easy to use and lightweight. The first snowshoes were made of birch, with ropes tied to a leg and were dedicated for those who conquered and opened the Arctic.
Snowshoes allow you to walk in the nature in the cold season, when the ground is covered with snow. Snowshoeing can be performed either alone, armed with a map of the routes taken in the Tourism offices, or accompanied by a professional guide who will provide security, decide on the nutritional and act as a guide. Such a walk is an opportunity to visit places which are inaccessible to pedestrians: dinner in a rustic cabin in the abandoned village of Mongarri, admire the frozen lakes National Park, climb the hill Côte de Baretzha (Còth de Baretja) and contemplate the beauty of the panoramic peak Aneto, the highest point of the Pyrenees.
