Baqueira

Baqueira is the best ski station in Spain and the Pyrenees. The first lift station was opened 6 December 1964, 16 years after the opening of the tunnel, which linked the valley with Lleida. Until 1948, the valley was not available 6 months in a year due to heavy snowfall. Over the past 40 years, the valley has changed dramatically, holidays in Baqueira has become a symbol of success and prosperity, the Aran gastronomy has become famous outside of the valley and the country.

Baqueira started to be built in the 60's, and by 1966 the resort became famous all over the country: for the opening of new lifts have come ministers, members of the royal family and members of the clergy. The first director of the station - Louis Arrias, the Olympic champion in alpine skiing at the Olympics in Italy in 1956, with its submission on the slopes of Baqueira trained future Olympic champions. Excellent quality snow puts the resopr on the same level with the best alpine resorts, which hosted the Winter Games.

Ski station of Baqueira-Beret offers excellent conditions for skiing, snowboarding as well as for the following disciplines: freestyle, freeride, cross-country, telemark, ski touring, and others. The resort has three ski areas with a total area of nearly 2000 hectares and all the conditions for skiing for both beginners and freeriders. Many European and American riders noticed excellent quality and variety of slopes for those who like to ride off-piste.

In 2014, the station Baqueira will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
